Dr. Ida Rolf’s Structural Integration

During the 1930’s Dr Ida P. Rolf began devising a unique and revolutionary method to systematically reorganize the structure of the human form. This followed a personal search for answers to family health problems that led her through an exploration of chiropractic, osteopathy, homeopathy, yoga, the Alexander technique and Korzybski’s work on states of consciousness.

In the mid- 1960’s she started to teach her work to individuals she hoped would become skilled practitioners of body-reorganization and around about 1967 she formally established the first school - The Guild for Structural Integration - in Boulder Colorado to educate students from around the world in this craft.
Despite fracturing into two schools - The Guild for Structural Integration and the Rolf Institute - both teaching organizations continue to churn out eager practitioners of what must be one of the worlds smallest professions.

As a mode of bodywork Structural Integration remains cutting edge, typically unheard of unless by word of mouth. It is, in my opinion one of the most dramatic tools we have to change an individual’s bodily structure, release chronic holding patterns and change the physical personality as it interacts with the outside world.
